Winter @ Wesley

Talofa lava ~ Ni sa bula vinaka ~ Malo e lelei ~ Kia Ora ~ Greetings

Our society’s lack of winter festivals, holy days and celebrations is partly the result of importing only northern hemisphere rituals at the calendar date but not the season. Many cultures celebrate their New Year in the dark of winter, the natural end to a busy farming year.

Churches sometimes criticise people for their lack of support of the Christian festivals of Easter and Christmas. With Winter @ Wesley, we have a real alternative of inviting people to celebrate the light of Christ in the middle of our dreary winter.

Every winter at Wesley Church since 2009, we hold a special Winter @ Wesley festival. Previous events have included free lunchtime concerts, with soup, bread and a time for fellowship afterwards, a free film series, an art series, historic walks, a cultural food fair, and other activities. We are always looking for new ideas and volunteers, so please feel free to contact us.

Check back here for more details ahead of next year's festival, to be held in July-August.
